Formula 1 In Malasia

Michael Shumacher wins another one. A strange, hot weather race with (like my days at school in Florida) flashes of rain. Last night was the second race of the year: here's what the schedule looks like:

How To Do Google Site Searches

My friend Joel asked me how to do Google searches — it's a free service from Google you get here: http://www.google.com/services/free.html

You do have to register (give 'em your email and set up a password), but once you do that you can fill out a set-up form and they'll give you the code you add to your template like the one over there on the right. You can give 'em the URL for your own logo if you want a full co-branded search look.

If you feel ambitious they do have a Java/Perl/C++ API you can use to add Google search info to your own web application...

Birds (In California And New York)

Yesterday, Meg (at Mandarin Design) got a nice picture of one of her yardbirds in the birdbath in the 80° sunshine, so I decided that our birdfeeder birds in New York deserved a photo too. Meg's photo is on the left, mine is on the right (Meg does have the advantage of walking out in the yard to shoot the birdbath — the birdfeeder is on the other side of the glass, a story up on the south side of the house because the land slopes down on that side of the house — the basement is ground floor on the south, buried on the other three sides...).

Note: Tatsuya Ishida decided to do a follow-up of the strip I ran a couple of days ago as an animated strip, so I've combined the new one with the Tuesday one — worth the follow-up, I think.

Duncan Long's Excellent Free Book, Anti-Grav Unlimited, From Baen Books

Anti-Grav Unlimited
Not much by the way of posting today, one of the comics I look at every day had an add from Baen Books that attracted my attention, and it lead me to Duncan Long's book at Baen Library which I downloaded and spent the day reading — too snowy outside to do much else after I got home from taking Mom to see the doctor. I'd give you a direct link to the download page, but the server keeps failing (or my ISP's DNS is pucked again...your guess...) so I can just give you the library page link (click the pic) or you can look at a link buried at the end of the book, http://www.webscription.net/. If I can get through later I'll add an update to this with the link to the book download page, but if you can get to Baen Books it'll give you a link to the free books list — well worth a look.

Update: It took forever to load the library access page, (half an hour this morning) and a lot of fiddle to get past the frames and get the source of the links page (with some 30 authors) so I could get the link to Duncan's download page, but here it is: http://www.baen.com/library/dlong.htm.
